Measure
Augmented Reality measuring apps are not exactly a new thing in the Apple App Store but Apple delivering this tool as standard in IOS 12, will see the end of these third-party offerings. Having tried a few of these out myself and being disappointed, I am excited to give Apple's version a try. Given their track record, I am expecting it to be a fairly accurate and adaptable tool. In his demonstration, Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi measured a 3D object (the suitcase pictured) and 2D shapes (a photograph on a table). While the demonstration with the suitcase showed an example of how length was captured, there was no demonstration of a volume calculation after measuring length, width and height. I am curious to know if this is a capability. The app automatically identified the dimensions of the flat image and did produce data on the length and area of the image instantly. |
